Queen's day
Queen’s Day 2011 (2): Dubai party
A sea of orange: some 1400 orange clad Dutchmen celebrated Queen’s Day 2011 at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai. The Silver Jubilee party (held for the 25th time) was organised by the Dutch Association of Dubai and joined by its sister association from Abu Dhabi. To the music of two pop groups flown in for the occasion from the Netherlands the crowd danced the night away. Traditional Dutch foods such as fresh herrings , ‘croquettes’ and ‘poffertjes’ (small pancakes) were served. The herrings (eaten raw with onions) were served with great skill by the same fishmonger from Holland who has served the Dubai Queen’s Day for 25 years! He received an award for faithful service form the hands of the Consul General.
Queen’s Day 2011 (3): ALOFT
Dutch staff at the ALOFT hotel in Abu Dhabi kindly organised a Queen’s Day party on 30 April (wich is the actual day celebrated in the Netherlands); everyone was welcome. It was a relaxed and friendly gathering with mainly Dutch people in their orange gear enjoying a chat with their friends while having a drink and something to eat.
